SAN FRANCISCO – Again faced with the task of playing from behind, the San Francisco women's basketball team could not combat the hot-handed Roadrunners on Wednesday night at War Memorial Gym.

Bakersfield capitalized on 46.8 percent shooting and an 11-of-22 effort from beyond the arc to take down the Dons 85-70. USF, who found itself down by as many as 14 points in the first half regrouped in the second, starting off the period with a Paige Spietz layup to reduce the lead to single-digits.

The Dons continued to slice away at the deficit, whittling the Bakersfield advantage to four points after Taj Winston's spin to the basket resulted in the score and a trip to the line. After the converted free throw for the junior from Long Beach, Calif., the it was 56-52 in favor of the Roadrunners with 15:20 to play.

With what appeared to be a momentum swing building for the Green and Gold, Bakersfield reversed course to go on a 20-4 run. The nearly seven-minute stretch saw USF commit five of its 13 turnovers and miss a spate of shots while the Roadrunners drained three of its 11 triples on the night to do the Dons in.

USF was paced by 18 points from sophomore Zhané Dikes, her second-consecutive team-leading outing. The Las Vegas native finished with 17 points in USF's successful comeback big against UNLV in its previous contest. Winston also posted double-digit numbers on the night. Her 15 points was coupled with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Dons finished the game shooting 44.4 percent, sinking but one less basket than the Roadrunners, but the difference was seen from long range. Bakersfield's 50 percent 3-point shooting was juxtaposed by a 1-for-10 night for USF. Bakersfield had four players in double-figures, with Tyonna Outland's 18 points leading the Roadrunners.

With the loss, the Dons move to 3-4 on the season, while Bakersfield improves to 3-5. USF will look to rebound on the road, facing Boise State Saturday at 12 p.m. PT
