SAN FRANCISCO – Back on the court for the first time in not quite three weeks, Taylor Proctor willed the San Francisco women's basketball team to overtime, but the Dons could not close out with a win as UMKC escaped War Memorial Gym with a 70-62 victory Wednesday night.

Proctor, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., finished with an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double to lead USF in both categories. Her 3-pointer with 28.4 seconds to play in regulation tied the contest at 56-56 and forced the extra period.

However, the Kangaroos came out swinging in overtime, outscoring the Dons 14-6 in the five minute stretch to get the win. UMKC was led by San Francisco native and senior for the Roos, Eilise O'Connor. The graduate of St. Ignatius posted a game-high 30 points, including a 10-of-12 effort from the line to account for more than 40 percent of the UMKC offensive output.

The Dons trailed by two at the midpoint break, but the Roos scored the first seven points in the second half to extend the advantage to its largest with the score at 36-27 with 17:57 to play. Proctor and the Dons responded with a nine-point run to tie the contest at 36 apiece.

The scoring frenzy started as Proctor finished a putback, and after an empty possession for the visitors, she dished to an open Hashima Carothers for the score. Then, one minute later Proctor drove to the basket for the score. Jamie Katuna, the West Coast Conference leader in 3-point percentage, capped the run with a triple to knot the game with 13:40 on the clock.

The contest remained a back and forth battle for the remainder of regulation, tied again at 40, 43 and 47 points. Kelsey Barnwell hit a 3-pointer with 3:53 to play to put UMKC back on top, but the Dons quickly answered. Rachel Howard's long-range splash hit every part of the rim before falling through the cylinder to put the score at 50-50.

The Roos again edged out in front, scoring the next four points in the game before a Proctor triple cut the UMKC lead to one with 1:23 remaining in the second period. After a pair for free throws by O'Connor, it was once again up to Proctor to hit her target from long-distance to tie the contest.

USF couldn't overcome UMKC's 9-2 run to begin the overtime period before eventually succumbing 70-62 to the Roos. The Dons outshot UMKC 42.9 to 40.7 percent, and crashed the glass for a 52-33 advantage on the boards. But the Dons couldn't combat their 24 turnovers which led to 23 UMKC points.

Along with Proctor's scoring output, Taj Winston added 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and six rebounds, and Zhané Dikes put up 12 points and six boards for the Dons. With the loss, USF moves to 4-6 on the season, while UMKC stands at 4-7 after the road win.

The Dons must rebound quickly, as USF plays its last non-conference game of the 2013-14 campaign at Fresno State Friday at 7 p.m.
