This Week -- USF (11-13, 4-7 WCC) return to Memorial Gymnasium this week for a pair of home games beginning with Thursday night's contest with the Portland Pilots (9-17, 2-9 WCC). Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. After facing Saint Mary's Thursday night in Moraga, the fifth-ranked (AP) Gonzaga Bulldogs, will make their annual trip to The Hilltop on Saturday afternoon. USF has won two straight and four out of its last six games following its 99-87 victory at BYU Saturday night. The Pilots split a pair of home games last week, defeating Loyola Marymount (69-60) before falling to Pepperdine (72-68) in overtime.
USF-Portland Series History -- Dating back to the 1962-63 season, USF leads the series with Portland, 58-25, including 45-23 in WCC play. The two teams have also met four times in WCC Tournament action, with the Dons holding a 3-1 edge. USF has won six straight in the series and is 26-10 vs. the Pilots dating back to the 1996-97 season. The Dons won the season's first meeting against the Pilots on Jan. 24, 75-72, as
Cole Dickerson nailed a game-winning three-pointer with 0.01 left. The Dons have swept the season series each of the last two years. Last year, USF posted a 104-70 victory on The Hilltop and followed up with a 72-71 win at Portland. The Dons also posted a 87-66 win in the second round of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas.

De'End Parker Named WCC Player of Week -- De'End Parker was named the WCC's Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in helping USF to a 99-87 victory at BYU last Saturday. The junior from San Francisco scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor and was 3-for-3 from three-point range as the Dons erased a 15-point second half deficit. Parker is the second USF player to earn the conference's weekly award this season.
Cole Dickerson was honored on Dec. 3 following a 19-point, 20-rebound effort against Montana.
Three's Company -- USF leads the WCC and ranks ninth nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 40.6 (189-465). The Dons are also shooting 42.4 percent (101-for-238) from long distance in conference play. USF has made 14 three-pointers in each of their last two games vs. Pepperdine (14-for-24) and BYU (14-for-23) and have shot at a 50 percent clip (54-for-108) from beyond the arc over its last five games. The Dons have made nine or more three-pointers in 10 games this season. Avry Holmes, who made all four of his three-point attempts at Pepperdine, leads the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 51.5 percent (35-for-68) while De'End Parker ranks third nationally at 50.9 (27-for-53).
Chris Adams (5th; 45.2) also ranks in the WCC's top-five. All but two of Adams' field goals this season has been a three-pointer.
That Close -- Of USF's 13 losses this season, nine have been by 10 points or less, including four of the last five which have been decided by six points or less. In four of USF's seven conference losses, the Dons trailed by two points with 31 seconds remaining in the game. However, USF has faced double-figure deficits in eight of its 11 conference games.
Home and Road -- USF is 6-5 at home this season and has a 40-18 (.689) record in its last 58 home games dating back to the 2009-10 season. The Dons are 47-23 (.671) in Memorial Gymnasium in five seasons under head coach
Rex Walters. The Dons are 4-5 in true road games this season, with wins at American (Nov. 19), Portland (Jan. 24), Pepperdine (Feb. 2) and BYU (Feb. 9).
Lineups -- USF has employed four starting lineups this season, with the latest quintent of
Cody Doolin,
Chris Adams, Tim Derksen,
Cole Dickerson and Matt Christiansen being in place for the last six games beginning with the Loyola Marymount game on Jan. 19. Christiansen has started the last six games in the middle while Adams has made 10 straight starts beginning with the BYU game. Doolin, Dickerson and Derksen have started all 24 games this season, while Tao Xu (16), De'End Parker (14) and Frank Rogers (2) have also earned starting assignments. Five underclassmen, including three freshmen, have earned starts at some point during the season.
Leaders in Their Field -- Four USF players -- Avry Holmes, De'End Parker,
Cole Dickerson and
Cody Doolin -- rank in the top-30 nationally in various statistical categories. Holmes (51.5) and Parker (50.9) rank first and third, respectively, in three-point field goal percentage, Dickerson ranks 16th in rebound average (9.9) while Doolin ranks 27th in assists (5.8).
From the Field -- After shooting just 32.7 percent (34-for-104) from the field against Santa Clara (16-for-50) and Loyola Marymount (18-for-54), USF has shot 49.4 percent (131-for-265) over the last five games against Portland, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Pepperdine and BYU. The Dons shot a season-high 57.1 percent (32-for-56) at BYU, including a sizzling 72 percent (18-for-25) in the second half as USF erased a 15-point deficit.
USF is 8-3 this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor, with its only losses in those 11 games coming against Ole Miss (50.9) BYU (50.0) and the first game against Saint Mary's (51.0). Board Work -- USF outrebounded BYU, 38-30, ending a streak of 10 games in which the Dons were outboarded by its opponent. The last time USF outrebounded an opponent prior to the BYU game in Provo was on Dec. 29 against Dominican (42-27). The Dons have been outboarded in 16 of the last 19 contests dating back to the St. John's game on Dec. 4 and rank ninth in the WCC in rebound average at 32.5 per game and rebound margin (-1.9). USF also ranks ninth in the WCC in offensive rebounds at 8.1 per game.
Charity Stripe Turnaround -- USF is shooting 71.3 (179-for-251) percent from the line over the last 13 games after converting on just 61.1 percent (132-for-216) of its charity tries over the first 10 contests. However, the Dons still rank ninth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 66.1.
Defensive Doings -- The Dons are allowing 69.8 points a game, which ranks eighth among WCC teams. Opponents are shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, which is the second highest percentage allowed in the conference. The Dons also rank ninth in the conference in blocks (2.0) and steals (5.3) per game.

Cole Dickerson has posted 10 double-doubles in 24 games this season, including the last two vs. Pepperdine (27-11) and BYU (14-11). He was a rebound or point away from double-doubles in five other games against Pacific (14-9), Nevada (11-9), East Tennessee State (19-9), BYU (22-9) and Saint Mary's (9-11). The last USF player to average a double-double for an entire season was Darrell Tucker, when he scored 18.9 points and grabbed 10.1 rebounds a game in 2001-02.

Cole Dickerson pulled down 11 rebounds in each of his last three games against Saint Mary's, Pepperdine and BYU. He has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 11 games this season, including a season-high 20 vs. Montana.
Holmes Tops the Nation in Three-Point Field Goal Percentage -- Freshman Avry Holmes enters the week leading the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 51.5 (34-for-47). In 11 conference games, Holmes is shooting at a 58.8 percent clip (20-for-34) from long distance. He is 13-for-20 (65.0) from three-point range over the last six games and has made at least one three-pointer in all of his games this season with the exception of one (at American). Holmes, who matched his career-high with 17 points at BYU, ranks as the Dons fifh-leading scorer averaging 7.5 points per game.

Cody Doolin ranks third in the WCC and 27th nationally in assists per game (5.8). Doolin's career assist total now stands at 387, which ranks third on USF's all-time list behind Orlando Smart (902) and Gerald Walker (400).

Dons Ironmen --
Cody Doolin is averaging 33.6 minutes per game, which ranks fifth among all conference players, while
Cole Dickerson ranks sixth, averaging 32.7 minutes per game. Doolin has started all 93 games in his USF career.
USF Impressive in Overtime Under Walters -- USF boasts an 8-1 record in overtime games under head coach
Rex Walters. The Dons only overtime loss came at Colorado State, 91-75 in the 2009-10 season.
Asian Station KTSF to Air Saturday's Gonzaga Game -- In partnership with the University of San Francisco and the West Coast Conference, KTSF Television, the largest Asian-broadcast station in the United States, will televise Saturday's USF-Gonzaga game from Memorial Gymnasium. The telecast is believed to be the first NCAA college basketball game to be broadcast live in Mandarin-Chinese. Veteran Chinese sportscaster and KTSF news reporters John Lee and former Taiwan national team player and five-time Jones Cup International All-Star Job Hung will call the action from courtside. The Chinese broadcast will also be carried live in Seattle (KFFV) and on a delayed basis in New York on WMBC. The game will also be streamed live on smartphones and tablets in the Bay Area, via the free Syncbak app, which is available for download on iTunes or GooglePlay.
Doolin Named to Capital One Academic All-District VIII Team --
Cody Doolin was one of five players selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII basketball team, as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America in recognition of the nation's top student-athletes for their performances athletically and in the classroom. Doolin, a native of Austin, Texas, carries a 3.68 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. He is currently the Dons second-leading scorer with a 12.2 points per game average and is averaging 5.5 assists a game, third-best in the West Coast Conference. District VIII comprises the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, along with Canada. Doolin along with the other first team All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in February.
