BOISE, Idaho – Playing its seventh ranked opponent of the season, the San Francisco men's tennis team succumbed to No. 24 Boise State 4-1 Saturday at Appleton Tennis Center.
The Dons earned their singles point from No. 3 player
James Tallman, who downed Thomas Tenreiro, 6-3, 6-0. Tallman, a redshirt junior from Del Paso Heights, Calif., improved to 12-6 in the dual match season and has won four of his last five outings.
USF picked up one victory in doubles action, as the top pairing of
Bernardo Saraiva and
Nils Skajaa continues to be a driving force for the Dons. USF's No. 1 duo notched their fifth consecutive victory as the tandem improves to 12-7 in the spring and sports an overall 22-10 record. Saraiva and Skajaa bested Andrew Bettles and Tenreiro, 8-5. For the Broncos pair of Bettles and Tenreiro, the loss snapped an eight-match winning streak.
The Dons had an opportunity to nab the doubles point, but
Germain Bahri and
Thomas Takemoto were narrowly edged out in the decisive match, 8-6.
With the match victory, Boise State improves to 25-4 and 14-1 at home in its last match of the regular season. USF now stands at an even 13-13 on the year heading into its final contest.
The Dons meet up with Air Force in a neutral court tussle Sunday from Boise, Idaho.
