Dons Win Rose City Collegiate

AURORA, Ore. – Paced by a closing round 68 by medalist Vanessa Ha, USF's women's golf team outlasted Oregon State and Fresno State to capture the Rose City Collegiate this afternoon at Langdon Farms Golf Club outside of Portland.

The Dons overcame a five-shot deficit on the back nine to win the team title with a tournament-record score of 871 (+7), two strokes clear of the second place Beavers (873) and four shots better than Fresno State (875).

After posting a pair of 71s on Monday, Ha's final round 68 lifted the sophomore to the individual title with a tournament-record score of 210 (-6), good for a three-stroke victory over BYU's Kendra Dalton (213). USF's Ayaka Suzuki tied for third place at 2-under 214 following a closing round 75.

The Dons entered Tuesday's final round tied for the 36-hole lead with Fresno State at 5-over 581 but fell five shots off the pace entering the final nine holes of play. Solid play by Ha, Suzuki and freshman Mabel Wong, who combined to play 5-under on the backside, lifted the Dons to their first team title since winning the Hobble Creek Invitational in September of 2013.

Ha's final round 68, which matched a career-best, consisted of five birdies and just one bogey on the Langdon Farms layout. She started her round with birdies on holes 1 and 2 and made the turn at 1-under par. Ha played the back nine 3-under as birdies on 11, 12 and 18 earned the sophomore her first collegiate title.

Suzuki, who entered the final round with a three-stroke lead on the field after rounds of 68 and 71 on Monday, slipped into a tie for third place after a final round 75. She lost three strokes with bogeys on holes 7, 8 and 9 but did not drop a stroke on the back side.

Wong, who posted rounds of 72 and 78 on Monday, closed with a strong 1-under 71. Playing in the No. 1 position in the lineup, the freshman was 1-over on her round through 14 holes but made clutch birdies on holes 15 and 18 to finish with a 71 and provided USF's winning two-stroke margin over Oregon State.

Clare Sorensen tied for 27th at 228 (+12) after a final round 77. She was part of a pack that included junior Alison Lillie, who jumped 12 spots up the leaderboard following a solid 74 on Tuesday.

Senior Emelie Lundstrom made five straight pars to close out her final round of 76, which earned her a tie for 34th place at 229 (+13).

USF will return to action at the Edean Ihlandelft Invitational, set for Oct. 6-7 at Sahalee Golf Club outside of Seattle.
