SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – A great week for junior forward
Michaela Rakova continued as she took home
National Jesuit Player of the Week recognition from the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. This comes after Rakova earned West Coast Conference player of the week honors on Monday in recording double-doubles in both of USF's wins this past week to open conference play.
In the Dons' 82-67 win at San Diego this past Thursday, Rakova shot 5-for-9 from the field en route to an 11-point, 12-rebound night, while also adding three blocks. She followed that up by going 10-for-17, while knocking down her first three-pointer of the year, in leading USF with 21 points and 13 boards in a 77-68 overtime win against fellow-Jesuit institution Santa Clara on Saturday. It was her second-highest point total of the season and matched her career high in rebounds, which she established earlier this year in the season opener against Sacramento State.
Rakova averaged 16.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting .577 (15-of-26) from the field for the week.
Rakova is the first Don to be recognized as the National Jesuit Player of the Week since
Zhane Dikes on Feb. 4, 2016.
