MSOC | WCC Title Highlights the Dons' Senior Night Win over LMU

THE RUNDOWN

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team entered tonight's senior night game against Loyola Marymount as the 2017 West Coast Conference champions, and used that momentum to propel them to a 2-1 win.

The evening did not start the way USF (9-8, 6-1 WCC) had planned, as LMU (4-12-2, 2-5 WCC) got on the score sheet first. Antonio Porreco got behind the USF defense and chipped the on-rushing Ruben Stuiver to make it 1-0 Lions. With 10 minutes to go until halftime, the Dons responded with a beautifully floated cross from senior Aaron Lombardi, which found Sean Bowman free in the box to head it into the back of the net.

With the game tied 1-1 after the intermission, the Dons started the second half looking the more likely to grab the go ahead goal. In the 55th minute USF broke the deadlock when a free kick from Santiago Digiuseppe was headed into the middle of the box by Lombardi, which Bowman latched onto the pass to fire into the back of the net for his second of the night.

The Dons finish the season on a six game win streak, earning a total of 18 points from a possible 21 in conference.

NEXT UP
The Dons will wait for the NCAA College Cup selection show to know their postseason fate. The selection show will take place on Monday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. on NCAA.com
