XC | Taylor a Finalist for 2018 Honda Sport Award for Cross Country

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's cross country runner, Charlotte Taylor, has been named a nominee for the 2018 Honda Sport Award for cross country, as announced by Executive Director of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards, Chris Voelz, on Monday.

This is the first Honda Sport Award nomination for Taylor. The senior ended the 2017 cross country campaign with several strong performances, including individual titles and course records at both the West Coast Conference Championships and NCAA West Region Championships. At the NCAA National Championships, Taylor finished the race in third place on the way to earning her second consecutive USTFCCCA All-American honor in cross country, and third All-American overall.

Taylor was named the USTFCCCA West Region Women's Athlete of the Year, the first USF cross country runner to earn the honor.

The nominees for the Honda Sport Award for cross country were chosen from the top four finishers at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship.

Joining the list of nominees for the award are University of New Mexico's Ednah Kurgat, University of Washington's Amy-Eloise Neale and Boise State University's Allie Ostrander.

Honda Sport Award winners will be presented with the honor during on-campus presentations throughout the year and all Honda Sport Award winners become a finalist for the prestigious 2018 Honda Cup award presented in June.

The CWSA, celebrating its 42nd year, has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.  Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.1 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women's athletics programs.

The Honda Sport award winner for cross country will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
