PORTLAND – It was a night of season highs for the University of San Francisco men's basketball team. USF shot the lights out of the Chiles Center, tallying 15 3-point field goals en route to an 84-61 rout of the Pilots on Saturday evening.
USF (9-6, 1-1 WCC) came out on fire, shooting 53.1 percent in the opening half, including 47.6 percent from 3-point range. The evening finished with the Dons recording 15 made 3-point field goals, a season-high, and had four players finish in double figures.
Souley Boum led USF with a season-best 26 points. He went 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. In the opening half, it was Chase Foster and Erik Poulsen who did a lot of the heavy lifting, scoring 10 points each before the intermission. Poulsen tied his career-high with 14 points, while Foster finished with 13. Jordan Ratinho chipped in 12 as well.
The Pilots (6-9, 0-2 WCC) attempted to make it a game when a 3-point field goal that would have cut the deficit to nine rimmed out. From there, the Dons put the game away, closing out Portland on an 18-4 run over the remaining five minutes.
Portland was led by Marcus Shaver Jr.'s 12 points. All eight Pilots who played scored at least five points.
