Warrior Fan Favorite to Speak at Dons Tip-Off Gala

SAN FRANCISCO – Former Warrior Adonal Foyle will be the honorary guest speaker at the Dons' Tip-Off Gala on Thurs., Oct. 12 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom.

In anticipation of the 2017-18 season, the University of San Francisco Athletic Department will host it's third annual gala to not only fundraise for the basketball programs, but also to gather current and past legends of Bay Area basketball for a night in the heart of San Francisco's vibrant Financial District.

Foyle will be a highlight of this year's program. The native of St. Vincent & the Grenadines is known by many titles – professional basketball player, author, national speaker, and consultant, to name a few.

In his 13 years in the NBA, the defensive specialist collected over 3,400 rebounds and still holds the Warriors franchise record for blocked shots, amassing 1,140 in 10 seasons with the team. In his last three seasons playing professionally, Foyle was a member of the Orlando Magic. He was an integral part of the 2009 Eastern Conference Champion squad.

After retiring, he went on to become the director of player development for the Magic for two seasons. Eventually, Foyle found his way back to the Bay Area and to Golden State.

Off the court, Foyle has stayed very active, especially in the realms of engaging the community. In fact, he currently serves as the community ambassador for the world champs and was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

He has received numerous awards for his efforts, including being inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame, NBA Players Association Community Contribution All-Star Award, Social Change Agent (Greenlining Institute), NBA Community Assist Awards (multiple years) and named Runner Up Central Floridian of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel in 2010.

"We are delighted to have a proven winner, accomplished author, and committed community leader address our athletes and the University of San Francisco Community," said USF Athletic Director Scott Sidwell.

Individual tickets to the event have been priced at $250, with the option to purchase a "Name Your Table" for eight for $2,500. This table offering includes the guest or company name on the placard designating your table. In addition, Celebrity Tables can be purchased, also including eight seats at the table. For inquiries, please contact Julie Congi at congi@usfca.edu.

In the spirit of engagement, each table will also include seating for a student-athlete, member of the coaching staff or representatives of the athletic department.

All proceeds from the night benefit USF's men's and women's basketball programs.

The USF men's and women's basketball teams tip off on the Hilltop in a special season-opening doubleheader on Nov. 10, as the women take on Cal Poly at 6 p.m., followed by the men's opener against Long Beach State at 8 p.m.
