WBB | Goodenbour Makes Coaching History on the Hilltop

SAN FRANCISCO – The head coach of the University of San Francisco women's basketball team, Molly Goodenbour, has now officially become the winningest coach in USF history through 50 games. After yesterday's contest, which marked her 50th contest, the second-year coach has a record of 27-23. She finished last year's campaign with an 18-13 mark, and is currently working her way through the West Coast Conference with a 4-4 record (9-10 overall) so far.

The seventh coach in USF history, Coach Goodenbour's winning percentage now stands at 54.0 percent (27-23). The previous owners of the accolade were Sue Rojcewicz (1982-87) and Mary Hile-Nepfel (2000-06), each with 25-25 (.500) records through 50 games.

This new honor comes after a few other accomplishments that Goodenbour has accumulated. In her short tenure on the Hilltop, she has...
  • Posted a winning record as a first-year coach for the first time since Sue Rojcewicz (1982-83);
  • Recorded a double-digit win total in WCC play (11) for the first time since 1996-97;
  • Earned at least a No. 4 seed in the WCC Tournament for the first time since 2002-03.
Here is a look back at Coach Goodenbour's highlights through her first 50 games:
  • Nov. 4, 2016 - Dons earn first win under Coach Goodenbour in exhibition in dominating contest against Cal State Monterrey Bay, 99-65.
  • Dec. 29, 2016 - Dons earn their first WCC win under Coach Goodenbour taking down San Diego, 82-67, on the road.
  • Dec. 31, 2016 - USF earns a thrilling overtime victory at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center against Santa Clara on a double-double performance from Michaela Rakova.
  • Feb. 16 - March 2, 2017 - USF has their longest win streak (5) under Coach Goodenbour, spanning from Gonzaga, Portland, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine in WCC play to Loyola Marymount in the first round of the WCC Championships.
  • Jan. 6 , 2017 - Anna Seilund leads the Dons to a 68-67 victory over Pepperdine on a buzzer beater layup, which highlighted her 24 points.
The Dons next home game is on Jan. 27 against Gonzaga. In celebration of Anna Seilund joining the 1,000-point club, general admission tickets will be $1, court side and baseline will be $10. Discounted prices go on sale Monday morning!

The contest against Gonzaga will be our annual Think Pink/Play4Kay game, raising awareness and donations, to do our part in finding a cure for women's cancers. Details about the game will be released on usfdons.com on Monday!
