SAN FRANCISCO - Per the West Coast Conference's
announcement today, the University of San Francisco men's and women's basketball programs' seeds for the WCC Championship Tournament have been finalized with both teams within the top five. Head Coach
Kyle Smith and his roster are positioned in fourth set to face Pacific (5) in the first round, while head coach
Molly Goodenbour and her squad are fifth in the brackets and scheduled to play Loyola Marymount (4).
Both the men's (17-14, 9-9 WCC) and women's (15-14, 10-8) programs finished with overall winning records. The women, led by seniors
Anna Seilund and
Michaela Rakova, also earned a winning record in WCC play. Previous to the loss against San Diego on Saturday, the men were on a 3-0 winning streak that was sparked by a huge win over a ranked Saint Mary's group. The women are also entering the tournament with some momentum, going 2-0 in their last week of conference play.Â
WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT INFO
The Dons are slated to take on the LMU Lions (19-10, 11-5 WCC) in the opening round of play at the WCC Championships. USF most recently fell to the southern California team, 60-65, splitting the season series after a 78-60 win earlier in the season.Â
Coach Goodenbour had a few words on the upcoming week. "This is the culminating week for all of the teams. Each team will be ready to play and take their shot at making it to the NCAA tourney. Win-loss records don't matter starting on Thursday, anyone can win. It's definitely an exciting time of year. For us we need to be focused and play with great purpose. This should be a good game and I know our players are excited to have another opportunity to go against LMU."
