WBB | Three Dons Awarded All-Conference Honors

LAS VEGAS - Per an announcement Tuesday by the league office, three Dons were awarded All-Conference honors. The three seniors on the Dons were each selected, highlighted by guard Anna Seilund who was named to the 2017-18 All-WCC First Team. Forward Michaela Rakova and guard Kalyn Simon were named to All-WCC Second Team and recognized as honorable mention, respectively.

This marks Seilund's first time being named to the All-WCC First Team. Last year Seilund was named to the All-WCC Second Team. She is averaging team-highs of 14.8 points per game and 5.1 assists per game. She had two thirty-plus points outings this year, including career-high 36 points (Portland, 12.30) and 34 points (Sac State, 12/15). She captured two other career-high marks this year - 10 assists (Santa Clara, 2/3) and 12 rebounds (LMU, 1/11). The native from Denmark earned two double-doubles in regular-season play. Headed into tournament action, Seilund ranks in the top-5 in the conference in several categories. She is second in assists, third in free-throw percentage (81.6), fourth in 3-point field goals made (53), and second in minutes played (35.1). She is seventh in scoring and eighth in assist-turnover ratio (1.6).

Rakova earned her first nod from the WCC with her second-team selection. She averages a double-double with 13.1 points per game and a team-high 10.1 board per contest. The Slovakia-import leads the WCC in double-doubles with 13, which converts to 33rd nationally. She also is tops in the league in rebounds (293), rebounds per game (10.1) and defensive rebounds per game (8). In those same categories, she ranks 20th, 26th and 17th, respectively. Rakova is fifth in the conference in the WCC, putting up 1.10 blocks each contest, and also seventh in field-goal percentage (41.9). She saw a season-high in scoring twice, with two performances of 25 points. One of those outings she also had 23 rebounds to earn her second 20/20 performance on the year.

The fifth-year senior, Simon, adds 10.6 points per contest. The San Jose native is tops on the Dons roster in field-goal percentage (of players over 100 field-goal attempts), registering 43.4 percent. She is also first on the squad in 3-point field-goal percentage, hitting 37.6 of all shots from downtown. She has hit 35 on the year, second most on the team. She dropped a season-high 22 points against Loyola Marymount. She recorded 10 rebounds versus San Jose State.

Looking ahead to post-season, all 10 West Coast Conference teams head to Las Vegas to compete for the 2018 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship and subsequent automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tournament action tips off Thursday, March 1 at the Orleans Arena.

The Dons first match up is against the Loyola Marymount Lions this Thursday March 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The two teams split the season series. Last year, they also met in the first round of conference play. The Dons defeated them to advance. For more information on the contest, visit our website or our Twitter.
