Coaches vs Cancer 3-point challenge

Men's Basketball

MBB | Dons to Participate in Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge

For the second consecutive season, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team will be putting its talents to good use as they will help raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society as part of the national Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge sponsored by the American Cancer Association.

"This fundraising challenge is right in our wheelhouse, we love to shoot the three," said second year head coach Kyle Smith. "Hopefully we make a bunch of them this month to support this noble cause.  Cancer is something that affects everyone, so we will do our best."

More than 20 years ago, Norm Stewart, former head coach of the University of Missouri men's basketball program, cancer survivor, and member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, provided the vision and inspiration to create Coaches vs. Cancer. He challenged fans to pledge a dollar amount for every 3-Point shot made by his team during the season. The concept, then called the 3-Point Attack, evolved into a nationwide effort uniting coaches, fans, players, and communities across the country to assist in the fight against cancer.

Fans can join USF Basketball's PLEDGE IT campaign, on Thursday.  Look for the link on the men's basketball twitter.  Be part of the excitement and donate for every 3-point shot made by the Dons during the month of February. Teams can be matched up against their rival schools to see who can raise the most funds from their 3-point shots, and fans can follow the leaderboard to see who will become the 3-Point Challenge Champion.

Through this platform, basketball fans anywhere can donate funds to help the American Cancer Society save lives. Funds raised will support the Society's mission to help ensure that lifesaving cancer research continues to get funded, and people facing cancer have the help they need.
