SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco track and field began their outdoor campaign with an impressive showing at the Hornet Invitational that saw the Dons break one school record, win three separate events and seven top-five finishes.
The day got off to a great start with the performances by both the men and women in the 1,500-meter event. On the women's side,
Marie Bouchard and
Lizzie Bird (running unattached) ran away from the field, outpacing the third-place runner by almost six seconds. Bouchard's time of 4:19.28 was a personal best for her, and a national leading mark as well.
Magdalena Dias finished fifth overall to make that three women in the top-five.
Frederique Latraverse and
Josephine Brysting finished the 1,500m in eighth and tenth place, respectively, to see five USF runners finish in the top-10 overall.
On the men's side,
Jacob Allen ran away from his field, too, beating the second-place runner by almost three seconds. To make it another three USF athletes finishing in the top-five,
Henry Mong (3:51.63) and
Alex Howard (3:52.49) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Scott Halsted, competing in the same section along with his USF teammates, finished sixth in the heat and overall with a time of 3:53.18.
Taking home the third event win on the day for the Dons was
Samantha Lind, who took home the top spot in the 400m. To top off the win, the senior bested the school record in the 400m she set back in January in the 400m, with a mark of 55.21.
