Frankie Ferrari is closing out a tremendous junior year by leading the Dons to the finals of the post-season CBI Tournament. The guard from Burlingame, Calif. leads the team in scoring with his 11.2 points per game.
In this week's spotlight on Ferrari, featured in the latest episode of USF's cable television show "Behind the Mask", he discusses how his family motivated him to pursue college basketball, what it's like working alongside his brother Ralphie who is a manager for the men's team, and his dedication to continue to get better. As the opening footage shows, Ferrari grew up playing basketball. You can hear his father running the brothers through drills, building their skill sets and competitive nature from a young age.
Now at USF, Ferrari is harnessing all his years of work and dedication to the game. The junior earned First Team All-WCC honors and was the catalyst as the Dons took down then No. 15 Saint Mary's on Feb. 15. Just a few games ago, he joined Chubby Cox ('76-'77) and Orlando Smart ('93-'94 and '92-'93) as the only players in school history to score 400 points and dish out 150 or more assists in a single season.
Ferrari and the Dons will take on University of North Texas in the finale, Game 3, of the CBI Finals. The winner will earn the CBI title. If the Dons win, they will become the first NCAA Division 1 team to have won three different postseason tournaments: NCAA, CBI and NIT.
