Chris Hom joined the USF baseball program in August of 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach.
Hom comes to San Francisco after coaching at the University of California-San Diego, a Division II program that plays in the California Collegiate Athletic Association for three seasons. While at UC-San Diego, Hom’s teams advanced to the College World Series in 2010 and 2009, playing in the national title game in 2010. During both years, UC-San Diego was ranked No. 1 in the country at various times during the season. The Tritons won three conference titles and hosted a regional for the first time in school history in 2011.
“We are excited to have Chris aboard,” Giarratano said. “He comes to us from a great program and a great academic institution. We foresee wonderful things coming from our relationship.”
Hom worked with hitters and infielders at UC San Diego in addition to working with the team’s academics, travel, team gear, recruiting and budget. The Tritons led the country in fielding percentage in 2010 and 2009. Hom also coached the national Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and 2009 in Vance Albitz.
Prior to beginning coaching at UC San Diego, Hom played for the Tritons for four years.
“I’m excited to work with an outstanding coaching staff that has one of the best reputations in collegiate baseball,” Hom said. “I’m looking forward to helping to continue to build to the winning tradition at San Francisco.”
