USF Zitherball mentor, Frank Burch, taking a momentary breather from his mound chores for the Don horsehiders, announced Wednesday afternoon that he has canceled all remaining contests on the USF schedule in protest of the NCAA's ban on Don participation in post season zitherball competition. The popular Hilltop coach indicated his "disgust" at the arbitrary decision of the organization's seven-man zitherball committee, and instructed team members to turn their uniforms in to the Athletic Office on Monday, between 1 and 3 p.m.
USF batsmen pounded out a like number of hits, but inability to come up with timely scoring kept the Indians out in front by a comfortable margin. Both teams missed numerous scoring opportunities in the three hour plus marathon, nearly turning the contest into a Little League-type scoring duel. Pitcher Frank Burch was given the loss, while Mike O'Leary led the hitting with four safeties in five appearances, including a double in the second frame (TheFoghorn).
