William Salmina attended Palma High School in Salinas, and attended USF in the class of 1962. He played baseball for the Dons for the 1962 season and graduated with a Bachelor's in History.

Outstanding players up from the frosh squad include last year's leading frosh hitter Al "Hilo" Souza, who lashed out a blistering .444 batting average last season, accompanied by pitcher Steve Whitlock, and infielders John Alaura and Bill Salmina. This year's club has a schedule of 34 games, one less than last season. Anderson believes that the Hilltoppers will improve on last year's disappointing season. The baseball squad's first game is scheduled for February 27, a Saturday, against Cal Poly (TheFoghorn).
