John Duggan Jr. competed for the Dons in Men's Basketball from 1993-1997 and still ranks 22nd All-Time with 1,175 career points. He was named to the WCC All-Academic Team in 1996 and 1997.  After six years playing professionally in Europe, he returned to earn a Graduate Degree from USF in Sports Management 2004.  He is part of a local San Francisco family that is dedicated to USF and to sports.  His father, John Duggan Sr., graduated from graduate of St. Ignatius College Preparatory in 1959 and University of San Francisco in 1963, and was given the Jim Brovelli Award on 2018 for his commitment, and dedication to USF's basketball programs. John Sr. was a basketball coach at St. Ignatius Preparatory and at City College.

It is easy to hear the excitement in his voice when he talks about the upcoming season and the big plans he has to improve on his success last season (15.7 PPG - 6th in WCC, 6.9 Rebounds - 2nd in WCC). Duggan ranked among the league leaders on the field goal (47.5%, 12th), free throw (75.9%, 9th), and three-point (36.3%, 8th) shooting lists. He listens to each question intently, trying not to blurt out the myriad of thoughts circling in his head, but instead carefully condensing them down into something he and we can understand. I knew Coach Brovelli since I was ten years old. He had seen me develop into the player prove myself all over again. I have to prove to Coach Mathews what I can do, what my strengths are, and why I think I'll be a contributor to his team. He can watch the films, but he doesn't know what I'm about, so from day one I had to prove myself to him. I had to earn his respect as a ballplayer (TheFoghorn).
