FRANK NOLAN, G, 5-10, 160, Jr. San Francisco. The team scrapper, Nolan came to USF two years ago as an unheralded ex-Sacred Heart performer, after six months in the U.S. Army. He proceeded to fight his way from obscurity to a starting job with the frosh, and last year played third guard on the varsity behind Gaillard and Norton. Nolan makes up for lack of size with tremendous hustle and speed. He handles the ball well and is particularly pesky on defense. His best shot is a set, but Frank (because of speed) also likes to drive for two points. He's a Political Science major and 21 years old. He is also an avid baseball fan.
However, the across the bay rivalry between the two schools has always been an intense one, as the donnybrook in last month's St. Mary's-USF contest will attest. In that tilt, played in the bucolic environs of Oakland, a clash between opposing guards Vurdell Newsome and Frank Nolan precipitated a melee that emptied both benches. A bout between Steve Gray and Bob Ralls proved the feature attraction. For USF, sporting an overall 10-14 record for the season, tomorrow's game marks the final curtain for four USF seniors: Bob Gaillard, Bob Ralls, Frank Nolan, and Hal Hobson (TheFoghorn).
