    Men's Basketball (1985-1986)
Too many times athletes are stereotyped into one homogeneous mold. Fortunately, the Dons have personality. It shows in their nicknames. Grandpa Jimmy. Darrell "Sky" Walker, Al "Sleepy" Attles have more practical names, Sleepy refers to the similar playing styles to the Warrior guard and Attles' perpetually drowsy facial expressions. There is "Stormin Normin" Parham, Boo, and the Chief. Robbie "Juice" Grigsby can dunk with the likes of Dollar Bill Hill. But my personal favorite is the name for guard Mike D'Aloisio. The player they call "Gun-a-ria". After all these are the college years. It's nice to know the 85-86 Dons have personality and are education-minded. There is no doubt the basketball program will be a shining example of how a major sports program can be competitive and honest. We all will be the benefactors.

On November 16 a USF extramural basketball game will transpire with the green and gold going against the U.C. Berkeley Blue and Gold in Memorial Gym at 8:15. This team consists of former USF standouts Anthony Mann, Ken Ramirez, and Steve Quasha. Norm Parham and Dave Lamb will direct the backcourt, and Larry Jones will grace the crowd, with his loud shorts. Go team! Speaking of basketball, the intramural winner of the men's three on three league were the Lambs. Dave Lamb captained the team, and was assisted by Dave Mori and Brad Gocha. Phil Woolpert, a former USF basketball coaoh during the Dons glory years, led the USF team to consecutive NCAA championships in '55-56. He has been nominated for the NBA Basketball (TheFoghorn).
