Marty is referring to the strong development of all her players. Anyone who watched the team last year, can notice how much better they are playing now. Probably the most improved player on the squad is Kelly Fey. The team lost much of their defensive strength when she was injured. Pauline Cheung and Grace Yong can set the ball as well as anyone in the conference. Pauline really came into her own during the last half of the season and Grace is a multi-faceted player who can hit effectively also.
Meanwhile, Grace Yong was doing everything on the volleyball court except keep score. The Dons carried this momentum into the final set, jumping off to a quick 6-0 lead. But then Cal Poly called timeout to regroup. They came out fired up, and went on to win 15 of the next 16 point scored to finish the match. These losses do not diminish the brilliant performances turned in by the young Dons. Even someone who knows little about volleyball can see a major improvement over last year's team. Grace Yong is playing better than she ever has, and she is being asked to play two positions at once. She is the team's number one setter, but is also called upon to hit the ball (TheFoghorn).
