Alec Campbell Thomas was born on August 7, 1910, in Berkeley, CA. He attended the then Saint Ignatius College and played for the then Gray Fog football team alongside fellow Hall of Famer Bob Kleckner. He graduated in 1933 and worked for Standard Oil in Ukiah, CA. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1979.
