Women's Golf Coach Scott Syms will welcome sisters Tricia Carriell from Xavier College Preparator in Phoenix, and Lisa Carriell from Florida State University, where Lisa lettered in 1990.
USF fielded its first first women's golf team last year. Last year's Athletic Director, Father Robert Sunderland S.J., said that Coach Scott Syms had been given, "The important responsibility of building our new women's golf program from the ground up." Upwards they have gone. The women started this season with a bang by finishing third at the University of Wyoming Jacoby Collegiate Invitational on September 16-17. Sophomore Jody Banovich finished eighth, followed by freshman Leta Brown at 10th, juniors Juli Cristopher and Lisa Carriel came in 19th and 21st respectively (TheFoghorn).
WOMEN'S GOLF DEFEATS PEPPERDINE:Â Women's golf continued their season by defeating the Waves of Pepperdine with a 36-hole total score of 691 at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The Dons finished four strokes better than the Waves. USF was led by Juli Christopher's 80-85/165 second-place individual finish. USF also got a 172 from Tricia Carriel, 175 from Leta Brown, and Jody Banovich's 179. Santa Clara withdrew from the event (TheFoghorn).
