Ellen Gordon played for the Dons, and received both the Charles Harney and the Anne Dolan awards in 1991. At 5' 9" she played forward from 1987 to 1991.

USF opened its season at the UNLV Classic with defeats to NCAA tournament participant Southern Illinois, 71-46 and Alabama 76-61. Senior wing player Ellen Gordon led USF with 24 points in thc two games, including a game-high 20 point effort against Alabama. Senior forward Valencia Hedgebeth chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds in the two games. Sophomore guard Amy Touli, following a team-high 20 points in the pre-season exhibition game over Germany, added 18 points, three assists, four steals, and two rebounds in the losses. Junior Joy Boyenga, seeing her first action since suffering a pre-season foot injury, came up with 18 points, four rebounds, nine assists, and two blocks over the two game stretch (TheFoghorn).
