GUARDS STRONG: At the guard spots, Jack Howard, ex-all city star from St. Ignatius, and Key Dickkason, also from out of state, hold the edge over Bob Kane, Frank Cardelli and Bob Shea. Kane played for the S. I. Varsity in 1943, while Cardelli is a former All City star from Lowell High School in 1941. Lee Vyenillo and Frank Bland seem to have the inside track to the tackle spots. Bland gained his experience with the University of Texas under Dana Bible in 1943 and 1944 while a V-12 student there. Lee Vyenillo came down to the University to play ball from Petaluma where he played for St. Vincent's High School (TheFoghorn).
