The USF softball team has enough talent returning to make a run at the WCAC conference title. They have enough determination to upset the ranked teams on their schedule. When it comes down to it there is only one thing they can't do. They can't get injured. '"I don't know what we would do if we have any injuries,*' said an honest Coach Sandy Pearsall. Once again the Dons will go with only two pitchers, Diana Robinson and Cheryl Gonzalez. Both proved themselves capable of pitching the entire schedule last year. Where it will hurt them is during practice where the batters will face live pitching only once a week so that Gonzalez and Robinson can preserve their arms for the games. If one of them gets hurt, pray for the healthy one.
Pitcher Diana Robinson registered her third shutout and fourth straight victory in shutting down the Hornets on two hits. Still, like the 1984 Chicago White Sox, '"winning ugly" has been her thing as she has already surrendered 17 hits. "She's given up too many hits, but we've made good defensive plays behind her," said Coach Sandy Piersall. "She's able to recover after she makes a mistake." "Lady Di" received all the offense she needed in the first inning, as Cathi Ciardella doubled with one out and Holli Brashear continued her hot hitting with a two-out RBI double (TheFoghorn).
