As the Don baseballers arrive in Los Angeles today, flossy fielding first sacker, Lenny Karp, is leading the batting parade with a .422 mark. This is just 50 points higher than his follower up, right fielder Gene Jacobs, who boasts a .372 average. In the RBI's department, Karp's booming bat has driven in ten base runners while Jacobs has sent in six. Coach Bill Cunningham is pleased with the way his team has come around the last few days. Bill says that the team is now beginning to play the ball they are capable of. "The team looks better and the breaks are beginning to go our way," replied Cunningham. He continued, "Everybody is playing good ball. Lou Marietta, Mike Scarpelli, Ed Rommel, and Gene Jacobs have really started to hit the ball, which is going to mean a big difference from now on.

Good news heartened the Hilltoppers this week as Coach Bill Cunningham announced the return of Don Townsend and Gene Jacobs to the squad. Both boys were dry-docked with injuries last week and it looked as if they would be lost to the squad for an indefinite period of time. But, according to Cunningham, Townsend will start against Santa Clara, and Jacobs will be ready for action next week (TheFoghorn).
