The USF baseball team upset the league-leading Santa Clara Broncos last Friday afternoon on the Don field. The final score was 12-5. The Dons pounded three Bronco chuckers for a total of 15 hits, while Hilltopper John McCarthy held the Santa Clarans to only six hits, and went the entire nine innings. In the first inning things didn't look to bright for the Dons, as Bronco hurler Dick Williams set them down in fast order; but in the second, John Cunningham cut loose with a bases-empty home run for the first tally. With McCarthy still holding the powerful Bronco bats in check, the Dons struck again in the third with two runs. A triple by speedy shortstop Bob Norton started things off, and a single, sacrifice, and an error accounted for the runs. In the fourth and fifth, the Dons also scored twice; a hit batter triple, and sacrifice moved two across in the fourth, and two singles and a triple did the trick again in the fifth (TheFoghorn).
