Catcher Dippy Matteuci received a painful bruise on his right arm when he got caught by a foul tip off the bat of Bill Lillie in the fifth inning. The spunky little backstopper went on however and finished the ball game.
In that productive first, Dunn and Matteuci led off With singles, and Bob Barbeau singled both home. Bob himself later scored on an infield out. They upped the count to 4-0 in the third as Matteuci pumped a solo to center, stole second and third, and then came across on a one-base knock by John Vick. Then the roof fell in. Three hits combined with two bad outfield errors in the fifth inning netted the Spartans four runs in one fell swoop. Things remained that way until the seventh, when Shields and Dunn both walked, and Matteuci singled, scoring Shields (TheFoghorn).
