The University of San Francisco men's basketball team posted a 12-2 conference record and won its second consecutive WCAC title in its 1972-1973 season.

With an overall record of 23-5, the Dons advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second year in the row. In the opening game, the Dons faced Long Beach State University, ranked third at the time. The Dons started the tournament with an upset, winning 77-67, but lost to UCLA in the second game.
