Conway Donald Catton was born on April 16, 1926 in Alameda, CA and attended his local Alameda High School. He attended USF in the class of 1952. He was an avid tennis player and was on the 1949 undefeated team that had a 12-0 season. He was named to the NCAA National Championship Tennis Championship Team at the University of Texas. He defeated Pac-12 member John Pulsbury 6-0, 6-1, which made him eligible for the Berkeley California State Championships. He competed in the Pacific Coast Championships, which was later to become the SAP Open. Conway was a member of the Tennis Professionals in 1951.
After graduating from USF, he attended the University of Pacific Dental School and practiced as an orthodontist in Los Altos.
