Daniel Joseph Galvin, Jr. was born on April 21, 1924 in San Francisco, and attended Saint Ignatius High School. He attended the University of Santa Clara for a short time prior to serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He then attended USF from 1946 to 1948, and was the Head Yell Leader. He started a combined degree program and attended USF Law School from 1948-1949, but left 16 units short of his degree, to attend Radio Broadcasting school. He later returned to finish his Bachelor’s in Communications in the class of 1976, graduating alongside his son, Daniel Joseph Galvin III, who was graduating in English and who also went on to USF Law School.  
 
He worked as the Assistant Publicity Director for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the Radio Color Broadcaster for the Oakland Raiders in 1964 to 1966. He was a Sports Director and Sales Manager for KSRO radio station before serving as Vice President and Public Relations Director for the Exchange Bank of Santa Rosa. He was a member of Santa Rosa’s Parks and Recreation Commission and was a generous donor to many charities. He was Co-Chairman of the United Way Special Projects with Pat Pedersen in 1977. He was a charter member of the Suburban Kiwanis Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Easter Seal Society, a member of the Bank Marketing Association, and attended Saint Eugene's Cathedral Parish (The Press Democrat).  

He was the founder of the Sports Celebrity Banquet in Santa Rosa that put on an annual banquet to raise money for local charities. For over 25 years, they brought athletes from all over the country to the banquet, including Willie Mays, Johnny Unitas, Archie Moore, Willie McCovey, John Brodie, and USF Hall of Fame colleague Bob St. Clair, who attended every single banquet.
