Eric Fernsten was born on November 1, 1953 in Oakland. He attended his local Skyline High School and enrolled at USF in 1972. He was 6’ 10”, 205 lbs. and played center for the Dons, for a total of 82 games, averaging 8.4 PPG, 9.4 RBG and 1.1 assists.
 
After college, he was drafted in Round 4 (62nd pick overall) by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1975. He played for several NBA teams as center and power forward: the Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Tampa Bay Thrillers, Staten Island Stallions, and the Albany Patroons. He played two years in the Italian League Men’s Sana Siena. While with the Celtics, he played on the NBA Championship team in 1981. He was described as one of the Boston Celtics' most popular players, and as a hard worker who pushed his other team members to work harder. His professional career averages were 2.4 PPG and 1.7 RPG. He retired from basketball in 1984.
