George Paiva

George Anthony Paiva was born on April 19, 1911 in San Francisco. He played football at Galileo High School and attended USF in the class of 1935. At 158 lbs., he was a welterweight boxer. In his sophomore year, he knocked out his opponent, Bob Bernard of UCLA.
He competed in both the Inter-Collegiates and the PAA Tournaments, and finished the early rounds. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a member and served as the Financial Secretary of the South End Rowing Club, a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, and of the American Legion Zane-Irwin Post.
He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 1971.
