John Sanchez was born October 12, 1920 in Los Angeles and attended San Diego High School. After starting at Redlands College, he transferred to USF and played football for the Dons. He was 6' 3", 239lbs., and played offensive tackle. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Spanish and served in the United States Marine Reserves.
He was drafted in Round 9 (81st pick overall) of the 1944 NFL draft by the New York Giants. He played for the Chicago Rockets in the AAFC in 1947, the Detroit Lions in 1947, the Washington Redskins from 1947-1949, and the New York Giants from 1949-1950.
