Kathleen A. Schindler was born on July 4, 1964 in Palo Alto, CA and attended Gunn High School before coming to USF. She played volleyball in high school and was considered a high-profile recruit before signing to compete on the Hilltop. Kathleen played at USF from 1982 to 1985 and lettered all four years. In 1984 she ranked fourth in the nation in service aces and led the USF team in kills, aces, hitting percentage and attempts, while posting a .400 or higher hit percentage in five matches during the 1984 season. 
 
She was an All-NorPac Conference selection in 1983 and 1984, and was named to the All-WCC First Team in 1985. She graduated as USF’s All-time leader in kills (1,052) and service aces (194).
