Kevin Restani was born on December 23, 1951 in San Francisco and attended Archbishop Riordan High School. As a senior in high school, he averaged 23.0 PPG and 17.0 RPG and was named to virtually every prep All-American team. Restani was recruited by more than 150 colleges and universities before choosing USF. He played for the Dons from 1971 to 1974.

Breaking many of Bill Russell’s freshman records, he was named to the All-Northern California Freshman team. Despite an ankle injury in his sophomore year, he managed 15.0 PPG and10.0 RPG, helping the Dons reach the WCAC title. Restani was named League Sophomore of the Year, and MVP in the 1972 Cable Car Classic and an All-League Star.

His coaches called him “invaluable” and opposing teams called him “one of the finest forwards anywhere (USF Athletics).” Unselfish yet fiercely competitive, he was known for his fine shooting touch. In his first full season starting, he excelled with 17.6 PPG and 12.7 RPG. He was chosen as MVP in Northern California, and received First Team League Honors as well as being selected for the All-Coast and All-District teams. As a junior, Restani was unanimously named Northern California Player of the Year. His senior year he was again named League All-Star. He finished his USF career with 1329 points, 882 rebounds, and a scoring average of 16.4.

Restani was selected in the 1974 NBA Draft in the Third Round (39th pick overall) by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but started with the Milwaukee Bucks for his first five professional seasons. He also played for the San Antonio Spurs, Kansas City Kings, and finally Cleveland. Restani played in a number of Italian leagues: Libertas Livorno, Libertas Forli, AMG Sebastiani Rieti, and Rovererto Basket. He left professional basketball in 1991 and became a high school counselor and a coach at Balboa High School.
