Melvyn Cronin

Melvyn Ignatius Cronin was born on June 13, 1898 in San Francisco. He attended the then Saint Ignatius College in the class of 1919, and as a youth worked in the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department coaching baseball. Among his students was his cousin Joe Cronin, who went on to play professionally for the Boston Red Sox. He played basketball for the then Grey Fog during his college years, and graduated with a Law Degree. During World War I he served in the United States Army. 
 
Later, he became a member of the California State Assembly for the 27th District on January 7, 1929, serving until January 2, 1933, and for the 25th District, on January 2, 1933, and resigned on January 4, 1942. From 1953 to 1977, he served as a California Superior Court Judge, and also as a Juvenile Court Judge under the Superior Court. He was also a member of the California Judicial Council.
