Peter Franceschi was born on September 28, 1919, in San Francisco. He attended Mission High School and USF, and played football for the Dons. After graduation in 1942, he entered the United States Army Air Corps, and upon discharge was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in 1946. At that time, military veterans were returning from service in World War II and were becoming the backbone of professional teams.
At 5’ 9’, 170lbs., he played halfback and as a defensive back. He had a string of nicknames: Perfect Pete, Peerless Pete, Peter Rabbit, Pistol Pete, Kmetovic, Kmet and Skeeter Peter. He played only nine games for the 49ers, in which he had eight rushes, three receptions for 35 yards, and one touchdown. After his 49er season, he spent the 1947 season with the San Francisco Clippers, and scored 5 touchdowns for them.
