Scott Cousins was born on January 25, 1985 in Reno, NV and attended his local high school, North Valley, where he played both basketball and baseball, three years as a starter. In baseball, he was named to the All-Star Team twice, and was MVP twice. At 6’ 1”, 200 lbs., he played for the Dons as a pinch hitter and outfielder, and threw and batted left-handed.
One of USF's best-ever utility players, Scott Cousins batted .319 with 15 home runs and 93 RBI from 2004 to 2006. He also posted a 12-9, with a 3.21 ERA in 33 career pitching appearances, including 27 starts. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-WCC First Team. As a junior in 2006, Cousins was named to College Baseball Foundations All-America Team, and was chosen as the WCC's Player of the Year. He was a WCC Player of the Week four times, and Pitcher of the Week once. That year, the Dons reached their first-ever national ranking and NCAA Regional appearance. He played in 47 games with 43 starts, and led his team in home runs.
Cousins was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 3rd Round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft. He played from 2006 to 2015, for the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, and the Somerset Patriots. After retiring as a player, he became an area scout for the Oakland Athletics, based in Scottsdale, AZ in 2016.
