Soebye was an attacking midfielder who played at USF from 1991 to 1994. He earned first team All-America honors in 1993 and 1994 and was a three-time team MVP for the Green and Gold. He scored six goals and added six assists to help guide the Dons to the 1991 West Coast Conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth as a freshman. Soebye tallied seven goals and four assists as a sophomore, and scored nine goals and registered 17 assists as a junior in 1993. Of USF’s 13 wins in 1993, he scored or assisted on 11 of the game-winning or game-tying goals, and was named the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year. As a senior in 1994, Soebye scored 15 goals and assisted on 10 others. For his career he scored 37 goals and added 38 assists for 112 career points. He was inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 2007.

Life After USF: After graduation, Soebye spent one season in the American Professional Soccer League and one season in the USA A-League. He played professional soccer ins his home country of Norway, and then returned to the US in 1999 with the USL A-League's San Francisco Bay Seals.
