(Eugene, OR) – USF men's golf struggled in the opening day of the 2011 Oregon Duck Invitational Monday at the Eugene Country Club. The Dons enter Tuesday's final round sitting in a share of 10th place in the quality 16-team field competing on the challenging par-72 course playing at 7,020 yards.
Sophomore Taylor Travis enjoyed a strong start with a 3-under 69 in the opening round before disaster struck in the second. Travis carded six birdies in his first 18 holes. Travis is the top Don on the leader board at 4-over 148 (69, 79), food for a share of 34th place.
Juniors Ji Hwan Park and Mat Miller each recorded a 1-over 73.
No. 1 Oklahoma State enjoys a 3-shot lead over tournament host Oregon. The Cowboys shot 6-under 570 (291, 279), while the Ducks are at 573 (289, 284). No. 22 Washington is third at even-par 576 (282, 294), five shots in front of fourth place Oregon State at 581 (298, 283). San Jose State rounds out the top-five teams in the field at 588 (290, 298).
Oregon State's Alex Moore leads the individual race at 8-under. Moore shot a 73 in the opening round before carding a sizzling 9-under 63 in the second loop.
USF looks to make a move in Tuesday's final round. The Dons go off in a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.
