Angelo Caloiaro Earns First Team Nod; Perris Blackwell and Rashad Green Honorable Mention

(San Francisco, CA) – Three Dons were named to the 2012 All-West Coast Conference men's basketball team as announced by the league office today. Senior forward Angelo Caloiaro captured first team honors, while junior forward Perris Blackwell and senior guard Rashad Green earned honorable mention nods.
Caloiaro turned in the finest season of his career in 2011-12 and led the team in nearly every statistical category, including scoring (14.7), rebounding (6,1) and 3-point field goal percentage (.397). The South Bay product averaged 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game during WCC play and drilled 30 3-pointers during conference action. It is the first All-WCC nod for Caloiaro, who scored a career-high 29 points with 11 rebounds against Pacific (12/10/11) and turned in four double-double nights during his final campaign on the Hilltop. Caloiaro enters the 2012 Zappos.com WC Championship ranked No. 19 in USF career scoring at 1,228 points (9.9) and is No. 3 in career 3-pointers with 181 (1.5).
It was the second straight honorable mention selection for Blackwell, who turned in a strong season on the low block for the Dons, averaging 12.7 points on a team-high .566 (151-267) from the field to go along with 6.1 rebounds per contest. The Etiwanda, CA native ranked second among WCC leaders in overall field goal accuracy and elevated his game during league play, averaging 13.6 points on .568 from the floor to go along with 6.9 rebounds. Blackwell was eighth in scoring and sixth in rebounding during WCC contests and scored a career-high 26 points at San Diego (1/28/12).
Green earned all-league honors for the second straight season after averaging 11.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in his final year in the Green and Gold. A Great Alaska Shootout all-tournament selection, Green scored a career-high 24 points at Loyola Marymount (2/4/12) and reached double-digit scoring 17 times. The New York native enters the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Championship ranked No. 38 on the Dons' career list with 925 points (10.3) in three seasons.
San Francisco opens play in the 2012 Zappos.com WCC Championship Thursday, March 1 when it takes on the winner of Wednesday's No. 8 Portland vs. No. 9 Santa Clara contest.
