SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's tennis team picked up its second win in as many days, blanking the University of Texas at El Paso, 7-0, Sunday morning at Golden Gate Park.
The Dons dropped only one set in singles play mere hours after posting three three-set matches in a road victory at Pacific, a feat that coach Hilary Somers attributes to her team's ability to rebound, both physically and mentally.
“I thought we recovered really quickly after playing such a late match last night,” said Somers. “We really took ownership of our home courts, which is really one of our goals. Our energy level stayed high throughout the whole match so that was really good to see.”
USF travels to face the San Jose State Spartans (2-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. before visiting the University of California, Santa Barbara Guachos (0-0) on Jan. 3 at 11 a.m.
“There's nothing like a couple of wins to get your team going,” said Somers. “We set a high standard of how to compete and fight moving forward to two big matches this week.”
