
USF's 2012-13 Honor Roll

USF's student-athletes certainly Aimed Higher during the 2012-13 athletic year.
Four teams and six individuals took part in NCAA Championship competition, while the women's cross country team won its fourth straight West Coast Conference championship.
Of the many student-athletes who earned All-WCC honors, two were recognized as the conference's player of the year while two others earned freshman of the year distinction.
Three Diamond Dons – Alex Balog, Adam Cimber and Justin Maffei – were selected in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft while junior golfer Cory McElyea qualified for the U.S. Open at historic Merion Golf Club.
USF also welcomed its 15th program this spring with the addition of women's sand volleyball.
Helen Lehman-Winters was named the WCC's Coach of the Year for women's cross country for the fifth time in her USF tenure. Gilad Doron became the winningest coach in the history of USF's women's volleyball program while Nino Giarratano (400th), Erik Visser (100th) and Rex Walters (100th) all recorded milestone coaching victories.
Six USF student-athletes earned Capital One All-Academic recognition, with senior pitcher Haden Hinkle, a physics major who carries a 3.68 grade point average, landing on spot on the third team baseball squad.
USF student-athletes combined to post a cumulative grade point average of 3.3, which was higher than the general student body population.

- Women's cross country claimed its fourth straight WCC championship and was ranked as high as 18th in the nation
- Eva Krchova became the first USF runner to win the WCC cross country individual championship
- Women's volleyball posted two wins over top-25 teams, including its first two wins ever over California
- Head women's volleyball coach Gilad Doron became the winningest coach in program history.
- Women's volleyball participation in the "Dig Pink" initiative raised $3,202 for cancer research. The amount was the highest by all schools in the state and one that ranked 11th nationally.
- Men's soccer posted its best record since 2008
- Women's soccer posted its best record since 2009
- Women's basketball posted its best record and first double-digit win total since 2007-08
- Men's basketball set a single-season school record for three-pointers with 249
- Men's track and field set eight school records
- Women's track and field set 11 school records
- Men's and women's tennis more than doubled its win total from the previous year
- Women's tennis achieved its first-ever ITA ranking
- Women's sand volleyball became USF's 15th athletic program
- Baseball made its second NCAA Regional appearance in three seasons and finished with its third-highest win total in program history, which included victories over No. 3 Oregon State and No. 11 Arizona.
