For the past six years, San Francisco tennis, in conjunction with the California Tennis Club, hosts one of the top tournaments in the region, and the nation. The Battle in the Bay Classic showcases some of the top collegiate talent in the nation, with facilities and set-up that mimics a professional event.
"Battle in the Bay Classic is about San Francisco, student-athletes, and USF all coming together at one historic tennis club to provide an opportunity for the community to come watch some fabulous athletes, and to provide home events for USF that they can really be proud of," adds Steve Jackson, Director of Tennis at the California Tennis Club. "There's very few opportunities for the community and for members and players to see tennis at this level. We bring the best players in the nation, and that's really what this Battle in the Bay is about."
"Really, this is the best collegiate tournament on the West Coast, and really there's nothing that rivals it," says USF Director of Tennis Peter Bartlett.
This feature on USF's premier fall tennis event is the latest released segment of USF Athletics' new feature series, Behind the Mask – the show that goes beyond the game. Episode 2 debuts on Comcast California Wednesday at 10 p.m., and will re-air Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. Check local listings for your cable provider's station guide.
