Burkard Named to WCC All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. –– USF redshirt junior Elena Burkard was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, announced by the conference office on Friday morning.
Burkard, a chemistry major, holds a 3.47 cumulative GPA while also serving as one of the top runners for the Green and Gold. This season, Burkard has returned from an injury to compete in two races, taking 61st place at the Roy Griak Invitational and 60th place at Pre-Nationals. On Saturday, Burkard will race at the West Coast Conference Championships, a meet that she was the runner-up at during her freshman season in 2012.
Burkard was the lone USF representative on the All-Academic team but sophomores Kelsey Nielsen and Erin Thomas both earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, while also being a significant contributor of her team.
