USF Celebrates Its Graduating Seniors

USF celebrates the graduation of 47 of its student-athletes this weekend.
A total of 47 USF student-athletes will participate in spring commencement ceremonies this weekend inside St. Ignatius Church, as the University celebrates the academic accomplishments of more than 2,000 graduating students from May 21-23.

Speakers for the various ceremonies include Audrey Cooper, the first woman editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle; Charles Phan, entrepreneur and chief executive chef of renowned San Francisco Vietnamese restaurant The Slanted Door; and Sylvia Earle, a National Geographic Society explorer in residence.

"We are very proud of all of our graduates whose hard work and dedication in the classroom and playing fields have been a source of inspiration and pride for everyone associated with USF Athletics," said Director of Athletics Scott Sidwell. "There aren't too many things more satisfying for me than watching a young person mature and develop over a four-year period and earn a meaningful degree from a great institution. This is a very special group that is very well-prepared to become leaders in their chosen fields of profession and in their communities."

Graduation weekend began on Thursday afternoon with a commencement Mass in St. Ignatius Church, where University President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J. served as homilist. Undergraduate Humanities and Sciences, Arts and Sciences and the School of Nursing held its commencement ceremonies on Friday, while the School of Management will celebrate its graduates on Saturday.

Many members of the athletic administration staff and coaches were on hand to greet the graduating student-athletes and their families on Welch Lawn outside of St. Ignatius Church following the ceremonies.
